TLI
At Doncaster Primary School, the Tutoring Learning Initiative (TLI) delivers targeted small group learning support to students in need of intervention or extension for Reading and Numeracy. While working closely with staff, we look at data to form groups of students to help reach their learning needs.
Individual Education Plans (IEPs) with SMART goals are used to meet students at their point of need as well as frequent collaboration with staff. The Program is quite dynamic, allowing new students and groups to join each term as required. DPS believes that all students can benefit from small group learning, through differentiated teaching and personalised learning goals using IEPs, whether it is for extension or intervention.
Students are chosen to extend their skills in Numeracy or Reading, with a focus on improving academic performance, preparing students for assessments such as NAPLAN and improving self-esteem and confidence. Reading Intervention groups are strengthening their Phonics skills using the Sounds-Write Linguistic Phonics approach. Sounds-Write is an evidenced based synthetic phonics program based on the Science of Reading. The program focuses on phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, ensuring that children develop the essential skills needed for literacy. It uses a hands-on technique that is fun and engaging.
