Science

Our science program at Doncaster Primary sparks curiosity and fosters a love of learning. From the earliest years, our Foundation students explore the world around them through hands-on activities, experiments, and nature walks. As they progress, they delve deeper into topics like forces and motion, living things, and materials.

In the middle years, students engage in collaborative projects, design experiments, and analyse data. They learn about ecosystems, the solar system, and the properties of matter. By the end of Grade 6, our students are equipped with a strong foundation in scientific inquiry and critical thinking, ready to tackle the challenges of the future. Here at DPS we also have a strong focus on technology including animation design, coding robots and designing technological solutions with Lego. These activities not only enhance their problem-solving and critical thinking abilities but also prepare them for future technological advancements. Our program includes interactive lessons and projects that align with the curriculum standards, encouraging students to explore, question, and understand the world around them. Through this robust science program, DPS is committed to nurturing young scientists who are well-prepared for the challenges of the future.

Blake, 1L

“I really enjoy science because I learn so much! We have learnt all about dinosaurs, how the earth moves around the sun, and the forces of motion. My favourite part of science is using the Lego sets to build different machines.”

Leila, 5K

“What I enjoy most about science is how we get to learn all about animals and how they survive in their climates. I have also enjoyed getting hands-on experience with using light, how it can bend and change in different ways. I also really like getting to use the different technology we have like the Spheros and Lego Spike to practice our coding and problem solving!”

Rocco, 1M

“Science is one of my favourite subjects! We get to do so many cool activities and use LEGO, iPads and fun equipment to learn about many different things.”
